Course description

“Operating Systems” is a 10-week course, where the main studies are fundamental design and implementation ideas in the engineering of operating systems. The course covers basic topics that include Linux structure, using the shell, navigating the Linux operating system, working with files and directories, Linux administration, service management, permissions management.

Individual laboratory assignments involve implementation of tasks in Ubuntu OS. Lectures are based on a study of Linux operating system practices.

Course goal(s)

Operating systems course is intended as a general introduction to the techniques used to implement operating systems and related kinds of systems software. The topics covered will be functions and structure of operating systems, process management; main-memory management; file-system structure and implementation; network configuration and security.
