About This Course

Welcome to Computer Network course! In this course you will be learning the basics of computer networks for further studies in related fields. The course consists of two parts. In the first part you will be familiarized with OSI and TCP/IP reference models, different types of protocols (such as ARP, TCP, UDP, IPv4, IPv6, ICMP, RIP, OSPF, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, POP3, IMAP and etc.). In addition, you will learn encapsulation and decapsulation processes in depth. In the second part, you will get knowledge about hardware part of computer networks, namely network devices and network topology.

By the end of this course students will be able to demonstrate keen understanding of basic computer networks, their architecture, device structure, principle of operations, and IP addressing and a subnet mask.

Course prerequisites and requirements

Basic computer literacy. Students must have basic knowledge of computers at the user level.

MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Intelligent System and Cybersecurity, Astana IT University, Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
Balzhan Azibek joined AITU in 2021, she teaches computer network and operating system courses. Her research area includes game theory approaches in power system modeling. Balzhan Azibek has experience working as a research assistance in several projects as well as research papers in international journals.

Senior Lecturer in the Department of Intelligent System and Cybersecurity, Astana IT University. Assem Temirbek teaches computer networks at Astana IT University. She has experience participating in projects as part of a research group on the modeling of physical processes. She is a co-author of scientific articles and reports at international conferences.
