About This Course

This practice-oriented course is aimed at analyzing the phenomena of leadership. In the modern world, leadership is indeed highly valued. Given the volatility in world affairs, the public’s desire for constructive leadership is higher than ever. Despite strong interest in leadership, not much attention is given to analyzing the complexities of practicing leadership. Thus, this course seeks to fill this gap.
This course syllabus includes fundamental principles of leadership and how these relate in practice to becoming an effective leader. These fundamentals are illustrated through examples and case studies. Special attention is given to the phenomenon of destructive leadership that is examined by using the Toxic Triangle framework, which describes how destructive leadership emerges, along with practical guidelines.
The remaining theoretical frameworks include Behavior theories, Situational and Relational theories, as well as “New Leadership” approaches, which include transformational leadership theory.
Case studies (including Harvard cases) seek to show in practice leadership issues and dilemmas along with thought-provoking questions for in-class discussion.

Course Goal(s) - to equip the students with core understanding on how to foster effective leadership within an organization by coping with complexity. The course should also provide essential skills for analysis and writing good-quality papers.
