About This Course

This course serves as an introduction to the world of digital media production. We begin with history, an exploration of sound, the fundamental building block of any media piece. We move on to image, video, and multimedia platforms. Elements of design, color, style, visual aesthetics and communication are explored. Students are introduced to various types of multimedia applications and learn how to construct effective audio pieces, images, videos and convergent media messages. websites, online content and graphic design/communication, and progress into designing, producing and critiquing web, audio and video work. Students work both collaboratively and independently as they build communication skills; brainstorm, reflect, critique, and problem-solve; and complete portfolio quality work in several media applications. Through lectures, students will learn more about the historical development and cultural context of the media. Through hands-on lab work, students gain experience and expertise with both media applications and critical viewing/discussion skills. In this course, we will be using Basic Audio Clip Mixer, Basic Adobe Photoshop, Basic Adobe Premiere, Wix.corn.
