About the course

The goal of EP is to train a digital media specialists with the skills to work with digital mobile technologies of information collection, processing and transmission, who is able to create multimedia content for media, who has innovative journalistic practices that are in demand in the modern labor market. This is a unique journalism education program designed to provide professional experience and academic training to help students succeed as journalists in any environment. This course looks at digital journalism in two ways: technological and visual verbal. It is an introductory course to acquaint all journalism sequence students with the tools of visual reporting and still photography, videography, and web site design-within a narrative context. This Syllabus is developed in accordance with the BSc degree in Media Technologies aims and learning outcomes, so that the students can successfully apply their knowledge and skills: critical thinking, the ability to analyze information and use it for self-expression, and the ability to create information, and meet the Astana IT University coursework assignments.

Course goals

This course aims to explore these shifts, with an eye to seeing how they affect journalism’s role in society. At the same time, the class will introduce you to the techniques of journalism in digital media and offer you conceptual and practical tools. By the end of the course, you should have a clear sense of the various ways journalists have taken up digital media and a sense of how you might use those media yourself. You should also have a broad understanding of the ways in which recent social and economic developments have changed both the practice of journalists and the nature of the publics to which they speak.

Objectives:

  • Assistance to students in identifying and understanding information needs and information sources;
  • Assistance in determining the location of information;
  • Formation of skills for analyzing and evaluating the quality and reliability of information;
  • Development of skills for organizing and storing information;
  • Training in the effective and efficient use of information in accordance with ethical standards;
  • Development of skills for presenting their own information and sharing new knowledge.
