About This Course

“Database Management Systems” is a 10-week course, which focuses on concepts and structures necessary to design and implement a database management system. Various modern data models, data security and integrity, and concurrency will be discussed.

Course Goal(s)

Course goal is to provide a solid background in database management systems for computer science, telecommunication, and information security students, in preparation either for a job in industry or for more advanced courses at the graduate level.

Course Objectives:

  • to design methodology for databases and verify their structural correctness;
  • to implement databases and applications software primarily in the relational model;
  • to use querying languages, primarily PostgreSQL, and other database supporting software;
  • to apply the theory behind various database models and query languages;
  • implement security and integrity policies relating to databases;
  • the basic principles behind data warehousing and preparation for data analytics.
